Hello everyone today I am going to tell you about Voodoo.

Haitian Vodou, also written as Vaudou or known commonly as Voodoo (Voodoo and Black Magic) is a syncretic religion practiced chiefly in Haiti and the Haitian diaspora. Practitioners are called “vodouists” or “servants of the spirits”.

Vodouists believe in a distant and unknowable Supreme Creator, Bondye (derived from the French term Bon Dieu, meaning “good God”). According to Vodouists, Bondye does not intercede in human affairs, and thus they direct their worship toward spirits subservient to Bondye, called loa. Every loa is responsible for a particular aspect of life, with the dynamic and changing personalities of each loa reflecting the many possibilities inherent to the aspects of life over which they preside. To navigate daily life, vodouists cultivate personal relationships with the loa through the presentation of offerings, the creation of personal altars and devotional objects, and participation in elaborate ceremonies of music, dance, and spirit possession.

Vodou originated in Nigeria and developed in the French Empire in the 18th century among West African peoples who were enslaved when African religious practice was actively suppressed, and enslaved Africans were forced to convert to Christianity.

Vodou is a Haitian Creole word that formerly referred to only a small subset of Haitian rituals. The word derives from an Ayizo word referring to mysterious forces or powers that govern the world and the lives of those who reside within it, but also a range of artistic forms that function in conjunction with these vodun energies. Two of the major speaking populations of Ayizo are the Ewe and the Fon—European slavers called both the Arada. These two peoples composed a sizable number of the early enslaved population in St Dominique. In Haiti, practitioners occasionally use “Vodou” to refer to Haitian religion generically, but it is more common for practitioners to refer to themselves as those who “serve the spirits” by participating in ritual ceremonies, usually called a “service to the loa” or an “African service”.These terms also refer to the religion as a whole.

Vodou is popularly described as not simply a religion, but rather an experience that ties body and soul together. The concept of tying that exists in Haitian religious culture is derived from the Congolese tradition of kanga, the practice of tying one’s soul to something tangible. This “tying of soul” is evident in many Haitian Vodou practices that are still exercised today.

Vodouisants believe in a Supreme God called Bondye, from the French Bon “good” + Dieu “God”. When it came in contact with Roman Catholicism, the Supreme Creator was associated with the Christian God and the loa associated with the saints.

Voodoo and black magic are same or not?

People think that voodoo and black magic are similar, Let me explain you about similarities and differences between both of them.

On the other hand, voodoo(Voodoo and Black Magic) is found to be a religion, long time back voodoo was practiced by those living in Haiti (as described above), but later with the bringing of slaves to other countries this religion spread and came to be known as voodoo. The practice of voodoo generally combines performing rituals to different forms of deities and it is expected that if the deities are happy with the rituals performed then they will help the person or grant a wish to that person. Since most of the rituals were performed during night time keeping in mind that the spirit of these deities can be invoked only after sunset or during moon phases hence it got started believing that voodoo uses black magic. In real voodoo does not use black magic but is a religion in itself which involves performing rituals and offer offerings to a different form of deities. Even voodoo has special priest and priestess known as the houngans who study the voodoo religion properly and who have the adequate idea about performing voodoo rituals so as to make a deity happy. Voodoo is a religion whereas black magic is a technique. Voodoo uses similar techniques to complete the rituals in its religion hence many do stand in the favor that voodoo and black magic are the same.
